PURPOSE: KLSWA Board to attend a scheduled meeting of the Tri-Communities Utility Committee.

The Kalamazoo Lake Sewer & Water Authority (KLSWA) is currently transitioning to a new Authority Administrator and implementing improvements to internal operations. As part of this transition, and to ensure billing accuracy, monthly water bills for January 2026 usage will not be issued in February.

Instead, January and February 2026 water usage will be combined into a single bill. The combined invoice is expected to be mailed on or around March 16, 2026.

This temporary adjustment affects billing only. Water quality, system operations, and the Authority’s ability to provide safe, reliable drinking water remain unchanged. KLSWA continues to operate normally and remains committed to the highest standards of public health and environmental compliance.

We appreciate your patience during this brief administrative transition. If you have any questions, please contact our office for assistance.

Sewers are designed to dispose of very specific things. Using your toilet for disposal of many modern products will result in blockages. The drains that connect your home to the main sewer are only big enough to carry water, toilet paper and human waste – often no wider than 4 inches.

WHAT NOT TO FLUSH:
Baby wipes, disinfectant wipes, moist wipes, etc.
Diapers (cloth, disposable, “flushable”)
Facial tissues
Toilet bowl scrub pads
Swiffer’s
Napkins (paper or cloth), paper towels
Dental floss
Egg shells, nutshells, and coffee grounds
Fats, oils, and greases
Food items containing seeds and peelings
Hair
Sanitary napkins, tampons, condoms, or any non-organic material
Vitamins, medicines or other pharmaceuticals
Wash cloths, towels, rags (any cloth item)
Clothing
Sheet plastic, or plastic of any kind
Cigarette butts

What should be flushed? Just toilet paper and human waste.
What about wet wipes? If you must use a “wet wipe” type of product these should be disposed of in the garbage, not down the toilet. While flushable wipes packaging says that it will disintegrate like toilet paper, that is generally not accurate, and these items can cause sewage backups.

This is what happens if you flush things other than toilet paper.
